Site Characteristics

  • Huntable acres: 100
  • Habitat: Site follows a 2.3 mile stretch of the Sangamon River and is directly adjacent to Allerton Park. Upland and bottomland forests are comprised of silver maples, cottonwood, sycamore, and walnut trees. The relatively flat grasslands consist of grazed pastures and retired agricultural fields. The site is comprised of 2 parcels

Site Characteristics

  • Huntable acres: 770
  • Habitat: Mostly timbered with a trees of various succession stages. Feral fields and small patches of meadow compose a minor portion of the site. A creek runs through the wooded section of the site. Site is contiguous to Allerton Park that has a regulated deer hunting program. Active habitat management will be occurring throughout the year on the site. These activities are necessary to improve and develop high quality wildlife habitat.

Site Specific Regulations

  • All statewide hunting regulations apply at site unless noted hereafter
  • Site requires use of windshield card, displayed on vehicle dashboard, to report hunting effort and harvest by 15 February
  • Use Hunt Planner to find hunting seasons open at this site
  • One portable tree stands and/or ground blind may be used per hunter but must be removed daily

Deer

  • Archery
    • Hunters required to use windshield card system
    • Only antlered deer may be harvested during the 1 – 15 October period of archery season
    • After October 15, archery regulations are the same as the rest of the state
  • Firearm
    • Statewide regulations
    • Requires site-specific permit obtained via statewide lottery
    • In addition to the lottery above, the site requires use of the windshield card system
