Habitat: This site features grassland, primarily managed for upland game hunting.

Active habitat management will occur throughout the year on the site.

Site requires use of windshield card, displayed on vehicle dashboard, to report hunting effort and harvest by 15 February.

Dove

  • Non-toxic shot only 
  • This site requires a site-specific permit acquired through a lottery for hunting September 1-5. 
  • September 1-5: Hunting hours are 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. A drawing will be held daily at 11 a.m. at the site office (Snakeden Hollow SFWA) if there are more hunters than can be accommodated. Stand-by drawings may be held. Dove hunters must hunt from designated staked areas.
  • Non-Permit Hunting is September 6 – 30: Hunting hours are sunrise to sunset.  
  • Hunters must sign in and sign out and report harvest at Snakeden Hollow SFWA. 
  • Site closes to dove hunting on September 30 

Rabbits

Available at this site. Statewide regulations apply, except: 

  • Requires a lottery-based Free Upland Game Permit that you can apply online for between Aug 1 – Aug 31. Harvest reporting materials will be mailed to successful permit holders via the Illinois Natural History Survey (INHS). You must report your harvest to INHS by February 15th to avoid the loss of hunting privileges for the following year.
  • Hunting is permitted on the 1st and 2nd day of the statewide upland game season and on each subsequent Wednesday and Saturday in November, and on each Thursday and Sunday in December. Closing date is December 24. 
  • Only 1 hunting party, consisting of the permit holder and no more than 5 hunting partners, will be allowed each day. 
  • Non-toxic shot is required.

Furbearer Trapping

Available at this site. Statewide regulations apply, except:

  • Trapping season starts at sunrise on December 26.
  • Furbearer trapping permits are allotted annually by site drawing at the Snakeden Hollow SFWA office on the opening day of goose season at 10 a.m. Persons participating in the drawing must have either a current or previous year trapping license. Permit applicants must submit name and address to the site prior to drawing.
  • Permits must be in possession while trapping at the site.
  • Only Egg Traps®, D-P (Dog-Proof) Traps®, Lil Grizz Get’rz®, box traps, cage traps, and traps of similar design may be used for land sets.
