Huntable acres: 80

Habitat: Habitat establishment on this area has included the planting of a mixture of legumes (such as clover and alfalfa), grain crops, and warm season grasses, as well as the creation of shrub windbreaks. The area contains a constructed wetland. 

Active habitat management will occur throughout the year at this site.

Rabbits

Available at this site. Follows the same regulations as Upland Birds. See the section above for more information. Also note, hunters must wear a cap and an upper outer garment of solid blaze orange, equal to at least 400 square inches.

Upland Birds

Available at this site. Statewide regulations apply, except: 

  • Requires a lottery-based Free Upland Game Permit that you can apply online for between Aug 1 – Aug 31. Harvest reporting materials will be mailed to successful permit holders via the Illinois Natural History Survey (INHS). You must report your harvest to INHS by February 15th to avoid the loss of hunting privileges for the following year.
  • One permit will be issued for each hunt day. 
  • Each permit holder may be accompanied by 3 hunting partners. 
  • Free hunting permit dates are generally the first weekend in November and each Wednesday and Saturday in November, and then each Thursday and Sunday in December. 
  • All hunting must be with a shotgun or bow and arrow (flu – flu arrows only and no broadheads).
