Site Characteristics
Huntable acres: 316
Habitat: Native prairie grows upon the site’s rolling sand hills. Interspersed within the fields of established native grasses are domestic grasses and legumes, along with wildlife food patches, sunflower fields, and crops. Several small wildlife ponds and wetlands are also scattered across the site.
Active habitat management will occur throughout the year at this site.

The site requires the use of a windshield card, displayed on the vehicle dashboard, to report hunting effort and harvest by 15 February.
Hunter should note any posted restrictions and regulations at the site before hunting.

Upland & Small Game
Dove
Available at this site. Statewide regulations apply, except:
- From Sept 1 – 5, hours are from 12 pm – 5 pm. Check-in time is from 10 am – 11 am at Green River.
- The dove hunting area is managed as part of the Green River SWA. A permit is required for the first five days of the season to be allocated by a drawing at the check-in area or site office.
- From Sept 6 – 30, statewide regulations; Sign-in and sign-out, and reporting of harvest are required at the registration box located in the site parking lot.
- Only non-toxic shot may be possessed when dove hunting on this site: #6 or smaller steel shot, or #7 1/2 or smaller bismuth shot.
- A limited number of hunters are allowed to hunt on this site at one time (currently, the limit is 20).
Rabbits
Available at this site. Statewide regulations apply, except:
- Requires a lottery-based Free Upland Game Permit that you can apply for online between Aug 1 and Aug 31. Harvest reporting materials will be mailed to successful permit holders via the Illinois Natural History Survey (INHS). You must report your harvest to INHS by February 15th to avoid the loss of hunting privileges for the following year.
- Each permit holder may be accompanied by up to 2 hunting partners.
- Hunting permits will be issued for the first and second day of the statewide upland game season and on each subsequent Wednesday and Saturday in November, and on each Thursday and Sunday in December, through December 24th. Contact the site for dates.
- Each permit holder must complete and return a hunter harvest survey report to the IDNR.
- Shotgun or bow with flu-flu arrow
