Site Characteristics

Huntable acres: 950

Habitat: Timber woodlots, brushy draws, and fence lines interspersed with open grasslands and agricultural fields. Topography consists of gently rolling hills with several gullies, some of which contain permanent water.

Non-hunters are not allowed in the hunting zones during open season.

One portable non-piercing tree stands or ground blinds which are legibly labeled (with hunters name, address and phone number) may be set up beginning Sept 15 and left unattended until January 31.

Archery

Available at this site. Statewide regulations apply, except:

  • The season opens the day following the close of the 1st firearm deer season and closes with the statewide archery deer season. Archery deer also closed during 2nd firearm deer season. 
  • No special site permit is needed for archery hunting; however, hunters must register by recording their name and date prior to hunting. Sign in at the check station. Hunters must sign out and record their harvest at the designated zone check station(s) upon completion of the hunt. 
  • Only zones 1,2,3,4 and 5 (see site map) are open to archery deer hunting. 

Firearm

Available at this site. Statewide regulations apply, except:

  • Hunting is allowed during the first segment of the firearm deer season only. 
  • A site-specific permit, issued through the statewide lottery, is required. Note: Permits that are valid for Whiteside Co. will not be valid at Morrison Rockwood State Park. 
  • Permit holders are required to check in by 5 am each morning. 
  • If the hunter quota is not filled each day of the firearm season, it will be filled by a daily drawing held at the area check station beginning at 5 am. 
    • Standby hunters must purchase a site-specific daily permit for $5.00 and may only hunt on the day they were selected.

  • A site-specific permit, issued through the statewide lottery system, is required.
  • The site will be open for the first 4 segments of the spring turkey season only. 
  • Hunters are required to sign in, sign out, and report harvest at designated locations. 
  • The site will be divided into 6 hunting zones with no more than 2 hunters per zone. Hunters need to self-assign to zones as they sign in. 
  • A hunter may be accompanied by 1 non-hunter.

Dove

Available at this site. Statewide regulations apply, except:

  • From Sept 1 – Sept 5, dove hunting is allowed 12 pm – 5 pm for those hunters who have been assigned via a drawing. Daily drawing is held at the parking lot/check station at 11 am with registration at the same location from 10 am – 11 am. 
  • Limited number of hunters allowed.
  • From Sept 6 – 30, statewide hours and regulations.
  • Hunting must be done with a shotgun only. Shot size is restricted to #7 1/2 lead or #6 steel. 
  • All hunters are required to sign in and out at the designated check station. 

Rabbits

Available at this site. Statewide regulations apply, except:

  • Season opens Nov 1 through the Thursday before the first firearm deer season 
  • Hunters must sign in and sign out at check-in areas.
  • Shotguns with steel shot of #3 or smaller, or with shot of # 5 or smaller for lead, tungsten or bismuth. 
  • .22 caliber or smaller rimfire rifles, muzzleloading black powder rifles, or air rifles .25 caliber or smaller, and may use archery tackle of flu-flu arrows. 
  • Only zones 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 (see map) are open to squirrel hunting.
