Site Characteristics

  • Huntable acres: 71
  • Habitat: The woodland on this area slopes steeply toward the southeast along an upland cropfield in the southwest corner, down to an east bottom cropfield, and drops northeast over a bluff above the Embarras River. The woods is mostly oak-hickory with maple understory.

Site Specific Regulations

  • All statewide hunting regulations apply at site unless noted hereafter.
  • Site requires use of windshield card, displayed on vehicle dashboard, to report hunting effort and harvest by 15 February.
  • Use Hunt Planner to find hunting seasons open at this site.
  • Hunting is to be done with shotgun or bow and arrow only, with the exceptions that .22 or smaller rimfire firearms and muzzleloaders may be used for squirrels and furbearers, muzzle-loading rifles may be used during the firearm and muzzleloader deer seasons, and legal handguns may be used for firearm deer season.
  • No off-road vehicle use is allowed.
  • All hunting requires the use of the windshield card system.

Deer

  • Archery, Firearm, and Muzzleloader Deer Hunting
    • Statewide regulations prevail.
    • One non-piercing, portable tree stands is allowed per hunter.
      • Stand may be left unattended during the period September 15 through Jan. 31.
      • Each stand must be legibly marked with the owner’s name, address, and telephone number.

Turkey

  • Fall Archery Turkey Hunting
    • Statewide regulations prevail.
  • Fall Shotgun and Spring Turkey Hunting
    • Turkey hunting requires a site-specific permit for Meeker SHA, issued through the statewide lottery at Springfield office.

Waterfowl

  • Waterfowl hunting is not permitted.

Squirrels/Rabbits

  • Squirrels
    • Statewide regulations
    • Hunters may use shotgun, bow and arrow, and .22 or smaller rimfire rifle.
  • Rabbits
    • Statewide regulations
    • Non-toxic shot is required.

Upland Birds

  • Dove, Quail, and Woodcock
    • Statewide regulations
    • Non-toxic shot is required.

Furbearers

  • Trapping
    • Furbearer trapping is not permitted.
  • Hunting
    • Statewide regulations
    • Rimfire rifles .22 caliber and smaller may be used from sunset to sunrise.
    • Furbearer hunting closed during Firearm Deer Season
      • Hunters with a valid, unfilled firearm deer permit for the hunt area may take coyotes during legal hours of the firearm deer season. Otherwise, the use of shotgun slugs to take furbearing mammals is prohibited on state sites.
    • Coyote and striped skunk season coincides with the statewide fox season.
