- Huntable acres: 891
- Habitat: Mostly non-reclaimed strip mine ground containing several lakes of various sizes and exhibiting a steeply rolling topography.



Site Specific Regulations
- All statewide hunting regulations apply at site unless noted hereafter.
- Site requires use of windshield card, displayed on vehicle dashboard, to report hunting effort and harvest by 15 February. All hunters EXCEPT dove hunters, upland game hunters, and trappers must obtain and display a windshield card when hunting at the site.
- Use Hunt Planner to find hunting seasons open at this site.
- Open fires are not allowed within the hunting areas.
- Hunters should note posted regulations before hunting.
- If game has been taken on a previous hunt, the hunter must first declare the harvested game when that game species is either on the hunter’s person or in his vehicle.
- Cleaning of game is not restricted on site. Doves, turkeys, coyotes, and raccoons must not be cleaned on site. Deer must be field dressed at least 50′ from any road, trail or developed area. Any debris or body parts generated by field dressing must remain at least 50′ from any road, trail, or developed area. Hunters must not drag harvested game on trails being used by the site’s patrons.
- Non-hunters must not enter the designated hunting areas during hunting season.

Deer

- Only one tree stand or ground blind is allowed per deer permit holder. Tree stands and ground blinds may be left unattended from September 15 through January 31. Any tree stand or ground blind left unattended must be legibly marked with the owner’s name, address, and telephone number, or site assigned identification number. Stands must not damage trees, and hunters must not trim limbs or cut woody vegetation to enhance the stand location.
- Deer must be field dressed at least 50′ from any road, trail or developed area. Any debris or body parts generated by field dressing must remain at least 50′ from any road, trail, or developed area. Do not drag game on trails being used by non-hunters.

Turkey

- Permits are allocated through regular statewide drawing.
- A limited number of hunters may hunt per day.

- Special permits are allocated by IDNR in Springfield. Applicants must apply between Aug 1- 31 to be eligible for the drawing. The application is available online.
- Each permit holder may be accompanied by 3 partners, allowing for a maximum of 4 hunters per day.
- Must wear blaze orange.
- Only steel or other non-toxic shot allowed
- Hunt days are opening weekend, Wednesdays and Saturdays in Nov and Thursdays and Sundays in Dec and Christmas Eve.
- Hunters will be required to return their harvest card prior to Feb 15.
Upland Birds
- Dove
- Sept 1 – 5 all hunters must register with the check station personnel.
- The site hunter quota will be filled by a drawing held at 11 am.
- Non-hunters are not allowed in the field during first days of season.
- Doves may be hunted from 12 pm – 5 pm.
- Beginning Sept 6, hunters must register and report their harvest at the hunter registration box.
- Sept 6 – 30, doves may be hunted during the statewide hours.
- Hunting is from the perimeter of field within 10 feet of numbered stakes
- Only non-toxic shot (as defined by the USFWS 50 CFR 20), #6 or smaller-size steel shot or #7½ or smaller-size bismuth shot, tungsten, or HeviShot may be possessed.
- Sept 1 – 5 all hunters must register with the check station personnel.
- Upland Bird
- Hunting by permit only. Special permits are allocated by IDNR in Springfield. Applicants must apply between Aug 1- 31 to be eligible for the drawing. Applications available online.
- 1 permit will be issued for each day of the hunt.
- Each permit holder may be accompanied by 3 partners, maximum of 4 hunters per day.

Furbearers

- Furbearer trappers must register at Hennepin Canal State Trail office.
- Floats may not be set more than 14 days prior to season and must be removed at the conclusion of the season.
