Site Characteristics
Huntable acres: 2,108
Habitat: mix of grassland and forest, with small areas of cropland, wetland and shrubs.
Active habitat management will be occurring throughout the year on the site, including prescribed burning.

Statewide and associated species regulations apply at the site unless noted hereafter.
Site requires use of windshield card, displayed on vehicle dashboard, to report hunting effort and harvest by 15 February
Only one tree stand or ground blind is allowed per deer permit holder. Stands must be removed at the end of each day with the exception that they may be left unattended from September 15 through January 31. Stands must be marked with the owner’s name, address and telephone number.
Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) has been found in Kankakee County. Further information regarding CWD, including sampling locations, can be found here.

- deer archery hunters must wear a cap and outer garment with at least 400 square inches of solid blaze orange or pink between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. in areas where upland game hunting is allowed during the site’s controlled hunting season.

Youth Firearm

- Permits are issued via a mail-in drawing to the site by the last Saturday in August. Mail in application should include: youth name, guardian name (hunting mentor), customer numbers, address, phone, and email.
- A random drawing for hunting positions will be made. Successful applicants will be contacted and sent a permit, rules and map.
- Only the dove/ag field area will be open for this program. Hunters must only use designated areas as drawn. Youth hunter will be required to purchase an over-the-counter Youth Firearm Deer Permit at a physical license vendor (available at this site) to participate.
- Check-in, check-out, and reporting of harvest is required at site.

Upland & Small Game
Controlled Pheasant Hunting
Available at this site. Statewide regulations apply, except:
- Controlled hunting only by permit and fee on a Wednesday through Sunday basis during the scheduled controlled pheasant season. Daily limit is 2 pheasants either sex per hunter
- The first Saturday following the opening of the statewide upland game season is open only to participants in the Illinois Youth Pheasant Hunting Program
- Closed during the November firearm deer hunting season
- Check in time is from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
- Hunting hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Hunters must wear a back patch issued by the check station.
- All hunting must be done with shotguns or bow and arrow. Only shot shells with a shot size of No. 5 lead or a non-toxic shot size ballistically equivalent to No. 5 lead or smaller may be used.
- Hunters under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult hunter.
- Obtain permits up until 9am on the day prior to hunting here
Dove
Available at this site. Statewide regulations apply, except:
- Dove hunting is only allowed in the Dove/Ag. field unit from staked locations north of the check station
- Hunters must hunt within 10 feet of an IDNR marked stake and their firearm will remain at their chair, when leaving the stake is necessary (retrieving birds, etc.)
Sept 1-5
- Hunting Sept. 1-5 is by Springfield lottery-issued permit, only.
- Hunting hours are from 12:00pm to 5:00pm
- Permit holders must register at the site check station prior to 11:00 am
- Permitted hunters who fail to complete their registration by 11:00 am shall have their permit voided.
- Following registration, a daily stand-by drawing, if needed, will be conducted for unclaimed or voided permits
- Field and stake selection will be made at the site check station through randomized draw following the standby draw
- Hunters may be required to wear back patches while in the field
- Hunters must sign out and report harvest at the check station/sign-out box immediately following their exit from the field
- Hunters may bring 1 non-hunting, unarmed observer

Rabbits

- Rabbit hunting is only open from the second Monday following the close of controlled pheasant season through the close of the North Zone season.
- Hnting hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Squirrels
Available at this site. Statewide regulations apply, except:
- Open from August 1-September 30, then reopens day after archery deer closes until statewide closing of squirrel season.
- Hunting may use shotguns, .22 caliber or smaller rimfire firearms, .25 caliber or smaller air rifles, or muzzleloading black powder rifles only
- Field unit north of the check station is closed to squirrel hunting in September.
Upland Birds
Available at this site. Statewide regulations apply, except:
- Open for 5 days, the Wednesday through Sunday immediately following the controlled pheasant hunting season, excluding Christmas and New Year’s Day.
- Following the controlled pheasant hunting season, no bobwhite quail or Hungarian partridge hunting.
- Pheasants of either sex may be taken; all hen pheasants must be tagged by the DNR before leaving the site.
- Hunting hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Woodcock

- Season closes the day before controlled pheasant season.

- Season opens the day after the controlled pheasant hunting season.
- Rimfire rifles .22 caliber and smaller may be used from sunset to sunrise.
- Furbearer hunting closed during Firearm Deer Season except; hunters with a valid, unfilled firearm deer permit for the hunt area may take coyotes during legal hours of the firearm deer season.
- Coyote and striped skunk season coincides with the statewide fox season
- No woodchuck (groundhog) hunting allowed.
