Site Characteristics

  • Huntable acres: 255
  • Habitat: Flag Pond is a naturally formed wetland in the bottomland of the Little Wabash River. The acreage surrounding Flag Pond is bottomland forest and grassland, supporting rare native natural communities. Active habitat management will be occurring throughout the year on the site

Site Specific Regulations

  • All statewide hunting regulations apply at site unless noted hereafter.
  • Site requires use of windshield card, displayed on vehicle dashboard, to report hunting effort and harvest by 15 February.
  • Use Hunt Planner to find hunting seasons open at this site.
  • A hunter, using a bow and arrow or a shotgun with shotgun shells, must hunt 100 yards from a dwelling. A hunter using shotgun with deer slugs or any other weapon such as air rifle and rimfire rifle, must hunt 300 yards from a dwelling.

Deer

  • Archery Deer Hunting
    • Statewide regulations.
  • Firearm Deer Hunting
    • Deer hunting requires a site-specific permit for Flag Pond SNA, allocated through the Springfield special permit drawing.
      • Clay County permits are not valid.
  • One non-piercing, portable tree stand is allowed per hunter.Deer hunters may leave stands unattended from September 15 – January 31.
    • Stands must be marked with owner’s name, address and telephone number.

Turkey

  • Fall Archery Turkey Hunting
    • Statewide regulations prevail.
  • Fall Shotgun
    • Site-specific permit for Flag Pond SNA, allocated through the Springfield special permit drawing, is required.
      • Clay County permits are not valid.
  • Spring Turkey Hunting
    • Statewide regulations prevail.

Waterfowl

  • Waterfowl hunting is not permitted.

Squirrels/Rabbits

  • Squirrels
    • Rimfire rifles, handguns, shotguns, muzzleloaders and air rifles are allowed for squirrel hunting.
  • Rabbits
    • Rabbit hunting is not permitted.

Upland Birds

  • Upland bird hunting is not permitted.

Furbearers

  • Furbearer trapping and furbearer hunting are not permitted.
