Site Characteristics

  • Huntable acres: 1351
  • Habitat: Copperhead Hollow has steep hills and deep hollows, covered with oak-hickory forest.  Agricultural leases provide and maintain open areas to increase habitat diversity. There are also small brushy areas interspersed across the site.

Site Specific Regulations

  • All statewide hunting regulations apply at site unless noted hereafter.
  • Site requires use of windshield card, displayed on the vehicle dashboard, to report hunting effort and harvest by 15 February.
  • Use Hunt Planner to find hunting seasons open at this site.
  • Hunters may leave stands unattended from September 15-January 21. One stand per hunter. Any stand left unattended must be tagged and labeled with name, address and telephone number.
  • No ATV’s are allowed on site.
  • No target or trap shooting is allowed.
  • Use of ground blinds during any firearm deer season required at least 400 square inches of solid, vivid orange material to be securely attached to the uppermost portion of the blind and a substantial amount of orange must be visible for 360 degrees.
  • Tracking deer with dogs is prohibited when deer hunting is being conducted on site.
  • No unauthorized person may use or occupy this area during any hunting season when authorized hunting is in progress.

    • Rimfire rifles .22 caliber and smaller may be used from sunset to sunrise.
    • Furbearer hunting closed during Firearm Deer Season
      • Hunters with a valid, unfilled firearm deer permit for the hunt area may take coyotes during legal hours of the firearm deer season. Otherwise, the use of shotgun slugs to take furbearing mammals is prohibited on state sites.
    • Coyote and striped skunk season coincides with the statewide fox season.
  • Trapping
    • A valid site-permit is required.
      • Permits are issued via a public drawing held in conjunction with the drawing at the Mississippi River SFWA site office.
        • All persons entering the drawing must have a current trapping license and habitat stamp.
    • Site regulations will be provided to permit holders.
