Habitat: Mix of grassland and forest, with a small creek that runs through it. Active habitat management will occur throughout the year on the site, including prescribed burning.

Rabbits

Available at this site. Statewide regulations apply, except:

  • Requires a lottery-based Free Upland Game Permit that you can apply online for between Aug 1 – Aug 31. Harvest reporting materials will be mailed to successful permit holders via the Illinois Natural History Survey (INHS). You must report your harvest to INHS by February 15th to avoid losing hunting privileges for the following year. 
  • Permits are issued for the first and second day of the statewide upland game season and on each subsequent Wednesday and Saturday in November and on each Thursday and Sunday in December through Dec 24.
  • Only 1 hunting party, consisting of the permit holder and no more than 3 companions, will be allowed each day.
  • Hunting hours are until 4 pm.
